Heat pumps

A heat pump is a device that is used to heat and, in some cases, cool buildings by moving thermal energy from a colder to a warmer environment utilising the refrigeration cycle, which is the opposite direction in which heat transfer would occur without the use of external power. Air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, water source heat pumps, and exhaust air heat pumps are all common device kinds. In district heating systems, heat pumps are also often employed.
